Easy Weekend Getaways from California: For People Who Hate Planning
Some people love planning trips. They have spreadsheets. They compare seven hotel options. They read reviews for two hours before picking a restaurant. This article is not for those people.
This is for the person who wakes up Wednesday and thinks "I should go somewhere this weekend" and then doesn't do anything because the planning feels like work. We get it. Here's how to book a complete weekend trip from California in five minutes.
Step 1: go to our weekend trips page (30 seconds)
Open leavefriday.com/weekends. Select your nearest airport at the top. You'll see every available weekend trip sorted by Weekend Score, which factors in flight timing, price, hotel quality, and duration so you don't have to.
Step 2: pick from the top 5 (60 seconds)
The highest-scored packages are at the top. Each one shows the destination, total price, flight times, hotel name, and score breakdown. Pick the one that looks interesting at a price you're comfortable with. Don't overthink it. The scoring already filtered out the bad options.
Step 3: book the flight and hotel (3 minutes)
Click into the package. You'll see the outbound and return flight details, the hotel, and booking buttons. Click "Search on Google Flights" to book the flights. Click "Book on Expedia" to book the hotel. Two bookings, two confirmations, done.
Step 4: show up Friday (0 planning)
You don't need an itinerary. The destinations we recommend are all walkable cities or resort towns where you can figure it out when you arrive. Walk around. Eat what looks good. Ask the hotel front desk what they'd do with 48 hours. The point is to be somewhere different, not to execute a military-grade travel plan.
Destinations that require zero planning
Las Vegas. Walk the strip. Eat. See a show if you want. Everything is right there.
Scottsdale. Pool. Food. Repeat. The whole weekend plan fits in three words.
Portland. Walk in any direction. Stop at whatever looks interesting. Portland rewards aimlessness.
Denver. Walk RiNo. Drink beer. Eat. The neighborhood does the work for you.
Cabo. Beach. Tacos. Margaritas. Done.
Why we built this
LeaveFriday exists because we think the planning phase kills more weekend trips than the cost does. People want to go somewhere. They just don't want to spend three hours on a Tuesday night comparing flights. So we did that part for you. Every flight is nonstop. Every hotel is vetted. Every combination is scored. You just pick and go.
