Weekend Travel Packages from California: Flight + Hotel Deals You Can Book Today

The hardest part of booking a weekend trip isn't deciding where to go. It's matching the flight timing with the right hotel, comparing prices across six tabs, and figuring out if the whole thing actually makes sense for just two days. That's the problem we built LeaveFriday to solve.

We match nonstop Friday evening flights with vetted hotels across 24 destinations, score every combination on five factors, and show you the total estimated price on one page. Here's how it works and what's available right now from California.

How our weekend packages work

Every package on LeaveFriday includes a nonstop outbound flight (Friday evening, ideally after work), a nonstop return flight (Sunday afternoon), and a hotel for two nights. We pull prices from multiple sources daily and score each combination on departure time, return time, total price, flight duration, and hotel quality.

The Weekend Score goes from 0 to 100. A perfect score would be an after-work Friday departure, a mid-afternoon Sunday return, a short flight, a great hotel, and a low total price. In practice, anything above 80 is a strong trip. Above 85 is exceptional.

We don't sell the flights or hotels directly. When you find a package you like, you click through to book the flight and hotel separately through our partner sites. The prices you see on LeaveFriday are estimates based on our most recent data pull. The actual price on the booking site may differ slightly.

Where you can fly from

We track packages from eight California airports: LAX (Los Angeles), SFO (San Francisco), SAN (San Diego), OAK (Oakland), SJC (San Jose), BUR (Burbank), SNA (Orange County/John Wayne), and ONT (Ontario). If you're in California, there's an airport near you with nonstop weekend options.

The biggest airports (LAX and SFO) have the most routes and generally the cheapest prices. But smaller airports like BUR and SNA have real advantages: shorter security lines, easier parking, and less stress. If you live closer to Burbank than LAX, check BUR routes first. The time you save at the airport is time you spend at your destination.

Budget packages (under $350 total)

Las Vegas consistently offers the cheapest weekend packages from California. Flights from LAX, SAN, OAK, and BUR are often under $100 round trip, and Las Vegas hotel competition keeps room rates low. A full weekend with flights and hotel for under $300 per person is common.

Phoenix/Scottsdale is another budget-friendly option, especially from Southern California airports. The flight is barely an hour, and hotel prices outside of peak season (October through March) are very reasonable.

Reno from SFO or OAK is a sleeper pick. The flight is under 90 minutes and hotel prices are lower than most California destinations. Plus, Lake Tahoe is 45 minutes away if you want a day trip.

Mid-range packages ($350-600 total)

Denver, Portland, and Seattle all fall in this range from most California airports. These are the sweet-spot destinations: far enough to feel like a real trip, close enough that the flight doesn't eat into your weekend, and interesting enough to fill 48 hours without trying.

Salt Lake City is another mid-range standout, especially in ski season when you can be on the slopes within an hour of landing. The flight is about two hours from most California airports.

Premium packages ($600+ total)

Austin, Nashville, New Orleans, and Chicago fall in the premium tier. The flights are longer (3-4 hours) and more expensive, and hotels in these cities tend to be pricier than in the West. But the experiences are worth it if you're looking for something special.

International destinations like Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, and Mexico City also fall in this range, though they can dip into mid-range territory when flight deals pop up.

How to find the best package right now

Go to our weekend trips page and filter by your home airport. Sort by Weekend Score to see the best overall value, or sort by price to find the cheapest options. Every package shows the flight times, hotel name, total price, and score breakdown so you can see exactly what you're getting.

We update flight prices daily and hotel prices weekly. If you sign up for our newsletter, we'll send you the top five packages every Thursday so you have time to book before the weekend.

The best deals go fast. If you see a package with a Weekend Score above 85 and the price looks right, book it. Prices change constantly and that exact combination may not exist next week.
