Weekend Getaway to Cabo from SFO: Everything You Need to Know

Cabo from SFO is about three hours nonstop. That's longer than from LAX, but still well within weekend trip range. You leave Friday evening, land in time for a late dinner on the beach, and fly home Sunday afternoon with a tan you didn't have 48 hours ago.

The flight

Alaska Airlines is the primary carrier running nonstop from SFO to SJD. Round trips range from $250 to $500. Prices are highest from December through March (peak season). The best value months are April through June when the weather is still great and fares drop significantly.

Friday departures typically leave SFO between 4 and 6 PM, landing around 9 to 10 PM local time. Sunday returns in the early afternoon work best, getting you back to SFO by early evening.

Is it worth it for just 2 days?

Absolutely. Cabo is designed for relaxation, not sightseeing. You don't need a week to "see everything." You need a pool, a beach, good food, and a break from the Bay Area fog. Two days gives you exactly that. Saturday is your full day: beach in the morning, boat tour or snorkeling in the afternoon, dinner on the marina at night. Sunday morning is for sleeping in and one last breakfast before the airport.

The key is staying in Cabo San Lucas (not the Corridor or San Jose del Cabo) so everything is walkable. You don't want to waste your limited time in transit.

What it costs

$550 to $900 per person for the full weekend: $250-500 for flights and $120-300 per night for hotel. Food and drinks in Cabo are 40-60% cheaper than the Bay Area. A weekend in Cabo often costs less than a weekend in Napa when you factor everything in.
